ลองมาดูศัพท์เรื่องบ้านๆบ้างดีกว่า Home ก่อนวันหยุดนะครับ
เมื่อพูดถึง home ความหมายแรกที่เป็นคำนามที่เรานึกถึงคือ บ้านที่เราอยู่อาศัย
1. home - บ้าน (house, residence)
- I just bought a home to start my family.
- I came home yesterday after my school summer break.
2. home ยังหมายรวมถึงครอบครัวด้วย คนที่อยู่รวมกันเป็นครอบครัว คือ Home ความหมายนี้ house จะใช้ไม่ได้
- She has a nic...e home with her husband and two children.
3. นอกเหนือจากสองความหมายข้างบน home ยังใช้ในรูปความหมายเชิงสัญญลักษณ์ เช่น สถานที่ที่คุ้นเคย สถานที่เริ่มต้น ศูนย์บัญชาการ (headquarter)
- Some consider that home is where the heart is.
- Some birds return home during their nesting time.
- SCB home is at SCB park.
- Windows starts at home.
4. home ยังใช้หมายถึงสถานที่พักของคนกลุ่มหนึ่งที่อาศัยอยู่ระยะยาว เช่น สถานพักฟื้นคนชรา หอพัก
- The government approves more funds for some elderly homes as we get into the elder society.
home ในรูป adverb มักใช้ในความหมายเกี่ยวกับการเดินทาง จุด ตำแหน่งสุดท้าย
- It is late already, Let's call it a day and go home.
- He left home to find a job in the city since he was 10 years old.
- The carpenter hits the nail home.
home ในรูป adjective มักใช้ขยายคำนามอื่นๆและให้ความหมายเกี่ยวกับบ้าน หรือ ความหมายในเชิงสัญญลักษณ์ข้างต้น
- My dad just setup his home office for his business.
- John hit the ball very hard and immediatly makes the on home run in this game..
home ยังใช้เป็น กริยา ได้ด้วย แต่คงไม่ค่อยคุ้นกัน
- Missile homed in the Saddam's home and finally he was captured.
- The scientists all over the world are homing in on Dolly, the cloned sheep.
- I was very drunk last night and homed by taxi.
- Those birds home their way to the north.
